One of the more popular mass start events in track racing is the devil take the hind most.  It is of those races that seem to around since the start of track cycling whereby creating an opportunity for the best tacticians and not necessarily the strongest riders to show their ability.
The rules of the event are as follows.   One group of cyclists start the race with the number of laps determined by size of the group this is because the last rider over the finish line is eliminated and is called out of the race. This continues until there is a predetermined number of cyclists (between two to six) will sprint for the top overall places.

This year, Phillips Promotions, the organizers of the Beacon Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Festival have put a different spin on the event with the help of the NLCB. This version is called the Play Whe Devil takes the hind most whereby all of the riders will be given Play Whe numbers and the respective names between one and thirty six. Adding more excitement to the race will be actual blue devils in all their glory playing their usual tricks and antics as the cyclists are eliminated.  This is the second time that this themed event will be hosted at The Beacon Cycling Festival.  When asked about the Play Whe race the creator of the concept and sales pitch Michael Phillips stated, “The inaugural year was so well received that we decided to continue the entertaining concept and we hope to keep building on it. It is an example of how well we can link our valued sponsors products to our sport thus creating a unique display.”

The track action pedals off at Skinner Park on Saturday 17th at 5pm, then goes to the Arima Velodrome on Sunday the 18th   from 4pm.
