The Beacon T&T Cycling Festival’s opening night will have a new feature event, which is the Compton Gonzalves power sprint. The new edition forms part of the legacy events now being introduced to the Festival, whereby several events are now name after prominent contributors to the sport of cycling during its early years in Trinidad and Tobago. The inaugural events are named after Roger Gibbon, Fitzroy Hoyt, Leslie King, Compton Gonzalves and Ferdi DeGannes. The very popular night of racing has always been an occasion for the endurance cyclists with only the lap prizes being the only opportunity to be part of the glory. The invitation only opening event will roll off at 8:05pm and will comprise a maximum of nine riders with the lineup including twenty time world cup gold medalist Roberto Chiappa of Italy and US sprint champion Gideon Massy. Forming the local will be will be triple Pan American medalist Christopher Sellier, Elisha Greene and Ako Kellar. Following the opening race will be the paraded of costumes and steel pan then followed by the introductions of the international riders for the fourteen lap event. Spectators and motorists are reminded about traffic restrictions that will take effect from eight pm.
